Parents of Child Models

Parents need to be aware that getting your child into modeling can mean a lot of work. I’m not talking about just the child. As the parent you’ll need to be able to drive your child to auditions, fittings, and jobs, so if you have a full time job this might be difficult.

When the child has a booking he or she gets paid, but they aren’t paying you for your time. So you have to decide if you can make both the time and financial commitment to your child’s career.

A parent knows their child and can determine if the child has the right personality for this type of environment. A child who is a good candidate should be happy, outgoing, playful, friendly, well behaved, be able to sit quietly, and of course cute.

If your child is shy, moody, not well behaved, aggressive, impatient, or rude, this might not be the right direction for them. So make an honest evaluation of your child and check in often to be sure they still want to be modeling. Don’t forget, a kid has to have time to be a kid. There needs to be a balance between work and play.

You might want to consider partnering with a mentor/coach so you begin your child's career the correct way. Think of it this way: it will be like having a personal coach for your child’s modeling career.
